Don’t panic if I am arrested in London, Altaf tells workers اگر میں لندن میں گرفتار کیا گیا، کارکن گھبرائیں نہیں

KARACHI: #Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief #AltafHussain on Saturday urged party workers to remain committed and not panic even if the Metropolitan Police arrested him.

Addressing party workers in Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas in connection with the upcoming by-polls scheduled for August 22, he said that no force could separate him from his fellows and the public.

“Do not panic... remain steadfast and courageous, even if the British police arrest me,” he said, adding that he was innocent, and not afraid of any action of the law enforcement agencies, including detention.

“Time has proved that all cases and allegations hurled at me were fabricated and false,” he said. Altaf Hussain said that despite physically living in Britain for the last 21 years, he was ‘spiritually’ present in Pakistan among his loved ones. The MQM chief said that he had faced difficult and testing times, false and fabricated cases and even imprisonment, but never compromised on his principles and beliefs. He stressed that the MQM was not against any ethno-linguistic group or community, and respected the rights of all.

“In the past, the MQM got a Sindhi speaking elected to the parliament from an Urdu-speaking dominated Azizabad area in Karachi, and now a Baloch has been elected from the same; thus practically demonstrating that we are against no one. The so-called nationalist leaders merely raise the slogan of Sindh dharti (motherland) to show their love for Sindhis, whereas, GM Syed himself in his lifetime announced that if there is someone who could get the due rights of Sindh, it is Altaf Hussain.”Addressing the people of Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas, he said that haq parast (righteous) people belonged to one community; therefore, they must get united for the attainment of their usurped rights. “In my eyes, all communities are equal and I respect them all,” he said.

Altaf thanked the small and medium traders; shop-owners; hawkers; rickshaw drivers; representatives of Baloch Ittehad, Mewati community, Kaimkhani community; and all others who announced their open support for the MQM candidate in the forthcoming by-elections.

He assured them that the MQM’s elected representatives would make all-out efforts and leave no stone unturned for the solution of their problems. He said that Mirpurkhas was the stronghold of the MQM; however, unfortunately, armed persons had occupied polling stations in the previous election in the rural areas and threw out the polling staff to cast bogus votes. He urged the election commission and the government to ensure free and fair elections in Mirpurkhas. Published in Daily Times 17 Aug 2013
