‘Azadi march’ #ImranKhan gives party cadres the go-ahead عمران خان نے آزادی مارچ کی اجازت دے دی

ISLAMABAD (via Business Recorder): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan has given a go-ahead to his party cadres for ‘Azadi March’ scheduled for August 14 – a million march the party announced in its Bahawalpur rally against alleged rigging in last year’s general elections.

Sources within PTI said that the party ministers, MPAs and MNAs had been assigned special tasks to make arrangements for the success of the march to pull a crowed of one million people towards the federal capital.

The PTI legislators especially those from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will reach Islamabad on the eve of August 14 along with their supporters. A large number of PTI supporters and enthusiasts from Karachi and Lahore will also join the long march.

When asked why PTI is so keen in the long march, a senior PTI leader said that it would help in bringing ‘true independence’ to Pakistan through reforms in the electoral system, adding “that is why PTI has decided to hold ‘Azadi march’ on Independence Day.” “If the existing electoral system is not changed, the status quo suits political parties like PPP, PML-N and the educated youth, the middle class and the professional people will not be able to enter the power corridors…our sole purpose is to give voice to the voiceless through electoral reforms,” he maintained.

About preparation for the march, he said that the senior party leadership had given directives to all lawmakers of the party in all the three provinces to ensure its success.

“The youth, Insaf Student Federation and women wings have already started preparations for the ‘million march’ and we will definitely manage to bring at least one million people to the federal capital,” he added.

He said that other political parties might also join the PTI long march, adding that “we are going to create a “New Pakistan” and the response of the political parties to PTI long march will show whether they are looking for a change or the status quo.”

The PTI leader said that party’s district and tehsil level office-bearers had been asked to start holding Iftar parties for their supporters to ensure their participation in August 14 grand show.

He said that after Eid-ul-Fitr, the youth would start motorcycle rallies in each constituency across the country on daily basis to build the tempo for the ‘final march towards federal capital’ which will be the ‘last nail in the coffin of the ruling elite.’
