Dawood Public School (DPS), a well-renowned and leading girls’ school in Karachi, takes pride in hosting DALMUN, which is Dawood A-Level Model United Nations 2015, an annual feature of the school. Commencing from January 09 to 11, 2015, DALMUN is an academic simulation of the United Nations initiated by the girls of DPS A-Level, aiming to bring together the youth from across Pakistan and encouraging them to work towards finding practical solutions to global issues.

The theme for DALMUN this year revolves around CHANGE. All committee sessions will be based around this theme.  The committees, this year, include Disarmament and International Security, Special Political and Decolonization, Pakistan National Assembly, International Atomic Energy Agency, United Nations Security Council, The Arab League, United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, Crisis Cabinet and Press Corps. As a custom, the full day debate sessions are followed by social events. However, this year the DALMUN team along with the young delegates will plant 141 trees and hold a vigil in commemorence and respect for the innocent martyrs of the Army Public School, Peshawar. This year more than 450 students from all across Karachi have participated.

Speaking of this activity, Hani Tariq, President DALMUN and a student of DPS A-Level, said, “The aim of this year’s DALMUN is to bring a change to the mindset of our youth by seeding thought provoking ideas and encouraging them to stand up for their rights. We also plan to have the draft resolutions printed and sent to the concerned authorities for corrective measures to be taken.”

The Principal A-Level Huma Thaver claims, “DPS believes in stimulating critical thinking and resilience in students by giving them platforms like DALMUN. DALMUN is a journey that gives students a chance to boost confidence by identifying and mobilizing their potentials and developing skills to make them effective problem solvers, change makers, and better citizens. Our youth needs to be empowered in order to be the catalysts of change, for a brighter future of this country.”
