LAHORE: A post-mortem report of the child found dead in Lahore on Friday, confirmed that he had been sexually assaulted and died from being hanged from the roof of a local mosque, as police continue the hunt for the main suspects.
Police on Friday had recovered the body of a five-year-old boy from the rooftop of a local mosque and arrested two suspects in connection with the murder.
On Saturday, SP Saddar Ijaz Shafi Dogar said that they had arrested five more suspects including the son of the prayer leader of the mosque where the boy was found and the brother of the prayer caller.
“The prayer caller is a prime suspect because the body was recovered from a locked room on the roof of the mosque and it was his room,” explained Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Amin Wains.
He added that all suspects remain in police custody as police awaits results of the forensic reports of the suspects. He hoped that the case will be solved within three days.
Earlier on Saturday morning, the family of the child protested in the Green Town with the dead body. However, they ended their protest peacefully after CCPO Wains assured them that the criminals will be brought to justice within three days.
The child was later buried following a funeral which was attended by a large number of people.
CM Punjab, who had taken notice of the incident late on Friday, asked the CCPO to ensure the culprits are arrested and the family gets justice.
Another local police official, Abu Bakar Siddique, confirmed the incident, adding that the investigation was currently focused on the cleric.
M*, who had been missing since Thursday evening, was accompanying some friends on a fund-raising initiative for Eid Miladun Nabi (SAW). According to his friend, Bilal, all the friends were collecting money when M* disappeared during a sudden power outage.
