NEW DELHI: Former President General (retd) Pervez Musharraf in an interview with an Indian news channel said only he had brought real democracy to Pakistan.
In the interview Musharraf emphasised that just holding elections could not be called democracy. “Elections are the beginning of democracy.”
The former president said India should not adopt an attitude which is focused on applying pressure on Pakistan. “The situation will improve if India treats us with equality and does not try to make us submit.”
When asked if he would visit India on the invitation of Narendra Modi like Nawaz Sharif, Musharraf replied he would not and would inquire about the purpose of the visit first.
Pervez Musharraf said cricket diplomacy should be used to improve relations between the countries. “Cricket diplomacy can be used in both the positive and negative sense.”
