SHANGHAI, Feb. 2015: UnionPay International announced on February 4 it launched special offers which will last for one month and covers the Spring Festival holiday in 30 countries and regions to bring considerate services to cardholders who will spend the traditional Chinese festival overseas.
As China becomes the world’s second largest tourist source country, UnionPay card (card number starting with 62) has also made its way to being the first payment choice of outbound Chinese travelers.
“Providing Chinese cardholders with considerate services is what we are committed to,” Cai Jianbo, CEO of UnionPay International, said.
“Unlike other holidays, the Spring Festival is of special importance to Chinese people. We wish the feeling of enjoying the Lunar New Year would be created for our cardholders who travel abroad by rolling out special offers and featured services to bring them better experiences for using UnionPay cards.”
The offers cover 1,500 selected merchants in 30 countries and regions, including 10 well-known shopping groups like DFS, the Galeries Lafayette and the Chic Outlet Shopping.
Privileges offered include discounts of up to 20% for using UnionPay cards at the above merchants and cardholders can also enjoy the usual exemption of 1%-2% currency conversion fees.
In 2014, UnionPay International rolled out special offers at 60 global airports’ duty free shops, 40 core business districts and 30 tourist destinations to enhance its cardholder privilege system.
The UnionPay acceptance network has expanded to 150 countries and regions outside the Chinese mainland and covers almost all of the destinations frequently visited by Chinese tourists.
UnionPay cards are accepted in shopping malls, brand stores, hotels and daily consumption places including supermarkets, restaurants, leisure facilities and taxis. In Hong Kong, Macau and South Korea, many convenience stores, restaurants, and public transportation even support the UnionPay QuickPass service. Abundant services including tax refund and overseas emergency cash assistance are also provided to UnionPay cardholders. Source UPI
