KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Qamar Mansoor on Thursday accused Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Fazlur Rehman of being a sympathiser of outlawed Taliban and terrorists and held him responsible for terrorist activities in the country.
Addressing a press conference with members of the Coordination Committee, he said party chief Altaf Hussain had quoted verses from the holy Quran in the light of which hypocrites could be identified, “and that it was clear Maulana Fazlur Rehman has adopted the way of hypocrites”. He said Fazl had exhibited a biased mindset on the matter of holding Taliban to account, adding that the MQM had already presented its stance over Saulat Mirza and Ajmal Pahari. Saulat Mirza has been behind the bars for the last 15 years, while Ajmal Pahari has never been convicted by any court, Mansoor said.
Mansoor said supporters of Fazlur Rehman had killed the youngsters of Pakistan in cold blood. He asked as to how the maulana could forget the “martyrs and missing persons of MQM”. He said women were not allowed to exercise their right to cast ballot in the strongholds of JUI-F. He asked Fazl as to who were targeting polio vaccination teams in the country. The MQM leader asked JUI-F chief to declare the foreign funding of his organisation, saying once the maulana had been caught with dollars at an airport by the authorities.
He said Fazl was pushing the country towards “fire”, accusing him of pitching one brother against another. Meanwhile, senior MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar, in a separate statement, said had Mufti Mehmood, father of Fazlur Rehman, been alive today, “the funding would not be used in fulfilling the personal agenda”.
