KARACHI: Former military ruler Pervez Musharraf said on Sunday that his party, All Pakistan Muslim League (APML), will take part in the local bodies’ polls.
Presiding over All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) Central Executive Committee (CEC) and Central Working Committee here Sunday, Musharraf, who has remained calm and quiet for a long time, said he has decided to be active in politics. He said the APML will go to the people with the slogan of “Pakistan First”. He said during his tenure the economy was vibrant but now it has been pushed to the bottom. He asked the workers to prepare for the local government elections. He said a prominent personality has agreed to support the APML in LG elections in Karachi.
He said that his preference is still Pakistan and he wanted to do good and positive politics for its development. He lamented over the bad situation of the country, saying Pakistan is heading towards destruction day by day and only the good politics can save the country. The Former president predicted that mid-term polls and interim government cannot be ruled out and that elections will be held after the incumbent government completes its three years.
“Party is incomplete without reorganization, however, it should be at grassroots point if you want to bring it at country-wide level,” Musharraf told the leaders and workers.
Musharraf warned that politics of Pakistan faces major challenge. Commenting on the need of third political power in the country, the former president said, “Pakistan needs third political power.” He greeted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan for making efforts to emerge as 3rd political power. “Change in government is to be made through change in system,” Musharraf added.
