After more than a decade of development, BRICS summits have be-come an important platform for the world’s main emerging markets to exchanges ideas, hold dialogues and deepen cooperation. Mem-bers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), cooperating in security, economics and cultural fields, have built effective mech-anisms to ensure regional security and promote mutual develop-ment, wrote Chinese Ambassador to Russia Li Hui on People’s Daily on June 3.
Li shed light on four aspects regarding the upcoming summit in Ufa, Russia.
Mutual political trust will help create a common destiny for BRICS countries and promote international order. BRICS countries should cooperate to build a “community of interests”. More efforts should be made to establish BRICS New Development Bank and Emer-gency Reserve Arrangement and then put them into operation as soon as possible. Such international financial cooperation can help diversify development. In addition, international cooperation is necessary to build a “community of responsibility.”
BRICS countries should also hold common views on a series of is-sues, such as the development agenda after 2015, climate change, anti-terrorism, cyber security and IMF reforms.
Through common efforts, it is possible to protect the shared inter-ests of new markets and developing countries. Finally, there should be a devotion to promoting BRICS cooperation in terms of economy, society, culture and security.
Li also shared his views on the importance of the 15th SCO summit meeting.
Its aims include realizing the “SCO development strategy to 2025” and a suitable plan for long-term development. The meeting also aims to help member countries coordinate various standpoints on major international issues based on increased political mutual trust and the preservation of sovereignty among member states.
The summit seeks to strengthen security cooperation and take strict precautions against the expansion of extremist forces in SCO mem-ber countries.
Finally, SCO aims to boost pragmatic cooperation and create real economic benefits.
BRICS countries have taken yet another step to spur development and cohesion to help drive world economic growth. SCO members cooperate to ensure security and create important opportunities that benefit all sides. China is looking forward to the achievements of the Ufa summit.
