LAHORE: Haier Pakistan is setting up the country’s first assembly line in Lahore, in collaboration with the Chinese home appliance and electronics giant, the Haier Group.
The first test run of 1,000 laptops manufactured at the Haier Pakistan Lahore plant was successfully completed earlier this year, and based on that success the company has set itself a target of 150,000 units for the year 2016.
Shah Faisal, CEO Haier Pakistan, says, “This capability to locally produce Haier branded laptops, the first major endeavour of its kind in the history of Pakistan has been realised with full collaboration of Haier China” and adds, “this is a first class example of what can be achieved given China’s willingness to assist Pakistan on the road to technological advancement.”
As the market for laptops currently estimated at 300,000 units annually is slated to grow in the years ahead, Haier Pakistan has positioned itself to help meet a significant portion of that demand through local production. The laptop assembly plant in the immediate and short term has resulted in the creation of hundreds of jobs and in the years ahead will enable Pakistan’s youth to chalk out their career development in a field that was hitherto not available to them.
