Former Sindh health minister Dr Sagheer Ahmed on Monday announced his decision to join the newly-formed political party of former Karachi mayor Syed Mustafa Kamal.
“I have come here today to join Mustafa and Anis Kaimkhani for the development of Pakistan,” Dr Sagheer said while addressing the media at the former Karachi mayor’s residence.
In August 2014, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Rabita Committee removed Dr Sagheer Ahmed from the panel. The party had at the time said that he was relieved of his duties to give him more time to address the health issues of the province.
“I have seen this city being destroyed and deteriorated and Kamal and Kaimkhani have provided me with an opportunity to stand up for a change,” Dr Sagheer added.
I think I need to play a clear and constructive role as a Karachiite and a dweller of this city, he further said.
“I couldn’t hold myself back from joining these two people. They have spoken the hearts of the people. I have never been in contact with any of them since they left the party,” the former Sindh health minister continued.
“If anyone asks who made Mustafa Kamal a minister or mayor I ask them who made you,” he said alluding to MQM claims that Altaf Hussain made Mustafa Kamal mayor of Karachi.
“We gave everything to the party but what did we get in return? Morpine injections, alcohol addiction and lewd speeches?” he questioned.
Not one worker of MQM or the Urdu speaking community is working against the country and I urge those at the helm of affairs to bring them in the mainstream politics, he further said. Dr Sagheer went on to say, “I have always disagreed with the exploitation of common workers of the party. I could not continue to see exploitation of workers and violence with the community.”
The former Sindh health minister said he pleaded several times to the MQM chief to stop the politics of killing people but no one listened to him. “The politics of strikes devastated the country’s economy.”
“Today everyone knows about Altaf’s links with RAW. I don’t want to say anything to any MQM member but I request Altaf to stop having innocent people killed,” he continued.
Former Karachi mayor Mustafa Kamal blew the whistle on MQM supremo Altaf Hussain in a dramatic two-hour-long press conference last week.
Meanwhile, former MQM leader Anis Kaimkhani, who made the sudden return to Karachi with Mustafa Kamal, has promised to break his silence soon.
The man who sat silently besides Kamal, who launched a no-holds-barred tirade against MQM chief Altaf Hussain, said he will address a press conference soon and make revelations. “I am keeping quiet for a certain reason,” he had told The Express Tribune in an interview on Saturday afternoon.
MQM’s former deputy convener, who has been accused of running teams of militants and target killers, has left all the talking to Kamal for now.
In an unprecedented tirade against Karachi’s most powerful political leader, Kamal had accused him of working against the State and deceiving the people of Pakistan.
Kaimkhani was associated with MQM for nearly 30 years before he left the country in October 2013. Since he was close to Kamal, he left for Dubai on the night Altaf lambasted him for being unable to contact Kamal to bring him back.
On Saturday, an anti-terrorism court in Karachi issued non-bailable arrest warrants in the Dr Asim Hussain case but Kaimkhani did not seem perturbed, saying he will seek legal help.
Earlier on Monday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Faisal Vawda talked with Mustafa Kamal over the phone, Express News reported.
Both leaders expressed their resolve to work together to end terrorism and corruption from the city.
