The nation’s youth geared to race at Shell Eco-Marathon Asia 2019

Karachi, March 25, 2019 (PPI-OT): Commemorating Pakistan Day, Shell Pakistan celebrated with the inspiring youth of the country, who will be participating in Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2019, an annual energy competition hosted by Shell where student teams from all over the world design, build and drive energy-efficient vehicles.

This year, nine teams from seven universities are representing Pakistan amongst a total of ~100 student teams from 21 countries from across Asia and the Middle East. The teams will test their self-built energy-efficient cars, to see who can go the farthest using the least amount of energy. The three teams from South Pakistan are; Team Envision PNEC NUST Urban and Team Envision PNEC NUST Prototype from National University of Sciences and Technology – Pakistan Navy Engineering College (NUST PNEC) and Team DSU Shell Eco-Marathon from DHA Suffa University.

Enthusiastic teams from NUST PNEC showcased their innovation to many interested visitors. Team Lead, Saad Chinoy expressed, “Our university has been participating in Shell Eco-marathon since its inception. This year, we have worked diligently on two types of vehicles; Urban and Prototype. We have harnessed useful energy from the motion of the vehicle’s tires improving mileage figures. We have also used free-wheel mechanism to economize fuel and reduce frictional losses. We are all geared up to compete on an international level.”

Habib Haider, External Relations Manager, Shell Pakistan opened the exhibition by saying, ‘Student teams from Pakistan have been actively participating in Shell Eco-marathon Asia since 2010. Pakistan is the sixth most populated country in the world with an increasing demand for energy, and therefore working on energy efficiency is very important for us. This is a great platform for the young minds of Pakistan to bring home ideas that will help our nation. We are proud to be a part of the journey of these young, talented teams and wish all the teams best of luck for the competition.” Celebrating its 10th year in Asia, the Shell Eco-marathon will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at the end of April.
