Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH), PBS for AKUH and Eli Lilly Pvt. Ltd. enter into a partnership




Karachi: ​The Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) and the Patients Behbud Society for AKUH (PBS) has entered into a partnership with Eli Lilly Pakistan Pvt. Ltd. (Lilly) to provide access to quality targeted therapy treatment to cancer patients with limited financial means Patients suffering from gastric and colorectal cancers will benefit from the partnership. The announcement came during an official signing ceremony held at the University Hospital premises in Karachi.

According to International Agency for Research on Cancer, every year over 100,000 people are diagnosed with various types of cancers in Pakistan, with breast, lung, and colorectal cancers being the most commonly diagnosed in the country. Under the agreement, Lilly will support 60% of the cost of Lilly’s medicine for gastric, lung & colorectal cancer. This will be applicable to all eligible patients from AKUH.
AKUH’s Patient Welfare Programme and PBS’ support for zakat mushtehiq patients will provide the remaining cost of treatment. With this intervention, many patients will get a hope for better treatment that will improve their quality of life.
Ms. Shagufta Hassan, CEO, AKUH, Mr. Ammad Siddiqui, GM Lilly and Mr. Nadeem Mustafa Khan, President, PBS signed and exchanged the Memorandum of Understanding. Other senior officials from both sides were also present to witness the ceremony.
