Unilever Announces to Change Brand Name of Fair & Lovely Product Range

Thank God it’s 2020 and the much-needed repairs of damages, caused by decades of conditioning, are being done now. One such notable change has been announced by Unilever India to change the brand name of its Fair & Lovely product range.
“We recognize that the use of the words ‘fair’, ‘white’ and ‘light’ suggest a singular ideal of beauty that we don’t think is right, and we want to address this,”
said Unilever India’s president of beauty and personal care division, Sunny Jain.

Subject to approval from regulatory authorities, the new brand name will be announced soon. The company however shared its plan to make a more diverse range of beauty products and aim at being inclusive regardless of skin color.

The decision has come on the back of ongoing debate about colorism and racism

“We are making our skincare portfolio more inclusive … a more diverse portrayal of beauty,” said Chairman Sanjiv Mehta.

The decision, a much appreciated one, has come on the back of debate and attention Black Lives Matter has brought on issues like colorism, racism and deep-rooted stigma against darker skin tone.
