Introduction

Aga Khan University (AKU) was chartered in 1983 as Pakistan's first private international university. Its Faculty of Health Sciences was planned with the support of Harvard University, McGill University and McMaster University, and presently includes a Medical College and a School of Nursing, which are located together with their principal teaching site, the Aga Khan University Hospital, on an 84-acre campus in Karachi, Pakistan.

Aga Khan University Hospital invites applications for the position of Assistant Manager, Bed Management Office.


Responsibilities

You will be responsible to do strategic bed management activities for patient placement to in-patient beds by utilizing effective communication and swift decision making based on patient’s health conditions, in consultation with the respective Service Lines. Core responsibilities will be as follows:

make effective management decisions for timely bed allocation in collaboration with other service lines

effective communication and constant coordination with the management for real time intervention

plan to ensure timely accommodation of all elective and ED patients to reduce wait times and avoid unnecessary movement of patients

manage accommodation/loaning of beds according to set guidelines of the Institution

respond appropriately in conflict or crisis situation

document and report timely hospital activities according to scope of responsibilities

participate in quality and patient safety activities adherent to JCIA standards compliance.


Requirements

You should have:

  • a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing (BScN) from an accredited school, MScN or equivalent degree would be preferred
  • valid registration from Pakistan Nursing Council
  • 5-7 years of clinical and administrative experience
  • strong clinical understanding of patient diagnoses and related care needs
  • ability to communicate effectively with patients, family member and interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
  • willingness to work on weekends, public holidays and shift duties.
