#Chitral, Reshun flood affected still waiting for compensation, MNA Chitrali distributed relief cheques among homeless of Reshun

CHITRAL (Gul Hamaad Farooqi) : The catastrophic floods that had hit the Reshun  area of ​​Upper Chitral district last week as a result  the flood completely destroyed the main highway at the Reshon site, as a result of which Upper chitral remained disconnected with other sorts of the country.. The floods completely destroyed eight houses along the river and partially damaged 12 houses. The road remained closed for five days, but the National Highway Authority and district administration later arranged  an alternative route from people's homes and land. Residents on both sides of this earthen road  say that  due to heavy traffic, dust  reaches their houses which makes their life miserable.  

The victims also complained that those whose homes were destroyed by the floods have not yet received any compensation from the government. Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali, Member National Assembly from Chitral, visited the affected area in Reshun  and met the victims. Maulana Chitrali distributed relief money from his own pocket to the victims. In this regard, a simple function was also held in which MNA  Abdul Akbar Chitrali was the chief  guest while Haji Bulbul Aman presided over the function. Speaking on the occasion, Akbar Khan, Merajuddin, Sultan Nigah, Subedar Shah Alam, Akhunzada Rehmatullah, Javed Hussain, etc. said that the recent floods have washed away our homes due to a substandard and poor protection  wall being built here.  They  said that only sand and mud was used in this protection  wall on which about Rs. 8 million  were spent  which should be duly investigated and legal action should be taken against the concerned officers and contractors.. 

Talking to our correspondent, Akbar Khan said that my house, land, everything was washed away but we have not received anything from the government yet. He demanded that proper arrangements be made for the accommodation of the victims who are still forced to live under the open sky or in the houses of relatives. 

Muhammad Ali and his son's house was located on the river bank which were damaged completely.  He says that my house and land have been washed away and I have lost Rs 24 crore but I have not got anything yet. Shah Nadir, Sultan Nigah, Chirag-ud-Din and others said that our house,  land, standing crop and everything had been washed away. So far we are helpless and no one has helped us. He also complained that the government had made an alternative route out of our houses and land but we had not been compensated. 

Shehzad Ahmed , said those whose homes were destroyed by the floods either live with relatives or under open sky. The floods have also damaged drinking water pipelines, irrigation canals, standing crops and orchards, trees and some are in danger of being damaged. The affected people also facing from  shortage of drinking water and need shelter. 

Reshun Victims and MNA  Abdul Akbar Chitrali urged the provincial and federal governments to provide immediate financial assistance to all those affected by the floods an alternative route has been constructed in their land. They should be compensated as well as  Reshun valley  repeatedly destroyed by floods, so they should be settled in Qaqlisht or some other safe place by giving them free land so that they can be protected from floods in future.
