The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has retracted its earlier notification proposing restrictions on passengers bringing more than one mobile phone from abroad. FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial ordered an immediate halt to the implementation of changes to the Customs Baggage Rules 2006. Under the current rules, travelers can continue bringing up to two mobile phones without additional restrictions.
Additionally, the FBR withdrew the proposed ban on commercial goods exceeding $1,200 in value. The decision came after concerns were raised about the amendments' impact. The FBR announced plans to revisit the rules through further consultations before resubmitting them for approval.
Earlier, the FBR's notification had suggested allowing only one mobile phone for personal use, with extra devices subject to confiscation. It also recommended barring the release of goods valued over $1,200, even with payment of duties or fines. These proposed amendments have now been shelved following public and industry feedback.
