Sindh Assembly passes resolution against Munawar’s remarks

Reactions on Munawar Statement-11 Nov 2013 by Geo News
KARACHI: The #Sindh Assembly on Monday passed a resolution condemning #Jamat-i-Islami (JI) Ameer #Munawar Hassan’s remarks.

The resolution was presented in the provincial assembly by PPP, MQM, PML-N and PML-Functional. Assembly members called on Hassan to tender an unconditional apology to the nation.

In an interview with Saleem Safi on Geo News program ‘Jirga’ the JI Ameer said US soldiers killed fighting the Taliban were not martyrs, then their supporters could also not be considered martyrs. Hassan in a statement made earlier had referred to former Pakistani Taliban chief Hakimullah Mehsud as a ‘martyr.’

Munawar Hassan’s remarks drew condemnation from the ISPR which in a press release referred to them as irresponsible and misleading. The ISPR press release called for an unconditional apology from Hassan for hurting the feelings of the families of Pakistani soldiers who were martyred while fighting terrorists.

In response to the ISPR press release condemning Hassan’s statement, the JI said the Pakistan Army did not have the right to interfere in political affairs.
