Beware of driving vehicles, especially two wheelers over manholes, as one never knows when the cover may give way. A 45-year-old man from Pimple Saudagar sustained severe injuries on Wednesday when the cover of a manhole gave way under his bike.

A good Samaritan who saw the incident rushed him to a hospital. The bike was stuck in the manhole for four hours after which traffic police managed to retrieve it.
The incident took place on Wednesday around 11.30 am near Javalkar Nagar on the road to Pimple Saudagar. The bike rider, Ganesh Taware, who works in a private firm, sustained injuries including bruises to his face and ears while a witness said his whole face was covered in blood.
Mahendra Rajendra Rajepure (25), a resident of Pimple Gurav, a building contractor, rushed Taware to a nearby government hospital and also alerted the police.
Rajepure said, “I was waiting for my friend when I saw Taware, who later said he was heading from Alandi to Pimple. Soon after the signal, Taware rode his bike over a manhole meant for storm water and there was a loud noise.
I rushed to the spot and saw Taware’s bike had fallen inside the manhole and he had been thrown on the road some 10 feet away. His whole face was red with blood. I rushed him to a hospital in my car.”
According to a police official, “Taware was admitted to a government hospital and after treatment he was discharged. The road contractor of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) had come to the hospital and paid the bills. Taware has no complaint against the PMC.”
