LONDON, Dec 04, 2014: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has said the government has initiated short, mid and long term energy projects to overcome the energy crisis.
He was talking to the Chief of Rostec Global Resources Andrei Korobov in London on Thursday.
He hoped the Corporation would play a vital role in strengthening Pakistan’s energy sector.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief of Rostec Global Resources welcomed Prime Minister’s interest in Rostec energy projects.
Rostec Global Resources is Russian-based corporation, which was established in 2007 for civil, military and dual-purpose high-technology industrial production development, manufacture and exportation promotion.
The corporation comprises 663 organizations that are currently part of 13 holding companies, eight of which operate in the military-industrial complex, and five in civilian sectors.
Prince Shah Karim Aga Khan also called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in London on Thursday.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister lauded his services for social and economic development.
Talking to a delegation led by Managing Director, World Bank Sri Mulyani Indrawati on the sidelines of the London Conference, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said the government is pursuing the agenda of development and reforms with special focus on poverty eradication and overcome energy crisis.
He said the government was trying to turn Pakistan’s challenges into opportunities through sound economic planning, good governance and consistency in policy implementation.
He appreciated the role of World Bank in financing Tarbela IV and said that preparatory work on Tarbela V has also started.
He said that CASA-1000 was important in the context of regional connectivity and the government was committed to its early implementation.
The progress so far achieved is satisfactory but there is room for fast tracking the project, he maintained. The Prime Minister also lauded the World Bank’s assistance in the construction of Dasu Hydropower project.
He appreciated that IFC, a subsidiary of World Bank was providing 125 million dollars to a holding company that was working for energy generation in Pakistan.
British Secretary of State for International Development Justin Greening also called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in London.
Talking to Prime Minister, she said British government is hopeful for social and economic growth in Pakistan.
Prime Minister appreciated British cooperation in education, health and other sectors.
