MUMBAI: In a daring daylight heist, a security van carrying Rs. 2 crore to be deposited in ATM centres was looted on Friday afternoon in Mumbai's suburb Vile Parle by four people, including one of the employees of the security firm, police said today.
According to police, the incident took place on Western Express Highway and a hunt is on to track down the prime accused, Sadre Alam, and his three associates.
Police said that the security van was loaded with nearly Rs. 2 crore cash by the security company at Lower Parel area.
"The vehicle with four employees, including Alam left the place to load the cash in ATM centres in suburbs," said Z Gharal, Assistant Commissioner of Police.
Alam, who is designated as a guard, asked his three colleagues, to stop the vehicle at Worli under the pretext of some work and later brought tea for his colleagues. The tea was later found to have been spiked with sedatives, police said.
As the van reached Parle, two guards fell unconscious while the driver felt drowsy. At that time, a car stopped before the van and three barged out from the vehicle. The three accused, with the help of Alam, opened the security locker, lifted the cash before speeding away in the car.
An FIR was registered at Vile Parle police station, police said adding that further probe was on.
