GHOTKI: A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped and burnt to death in Ghotki district’s Daharki city a few days back.
The victim and her mother used to stitch and sell sheets to earn their livelihood and were pursued by three men under the guise of purchaser. The girl drugged after being offered tea and was allegedly set on fire by those three men after being raped.
Victim’s 40-year-old mother, who was also got severely injured and came to conscious after a couple of days, told the media what had happened to them.
The victim’s brother filed a petition at the Ghotki session court after police refused to register the case. The court has immediately taken notice of the tragedy and has ordered the victim’s mother to record her statement.
In another such case earlier this month, a 10-year-old boy was allegedly raped and throttled to death in Gujranwala.
Meanwhile, rape is in particular a complicated case to prosecute in court system prevailed in Pakistan. Previously, in April 2011, the Supreme Court had upheld the acquittal of five men sentenced to death in Pakistan’s most famous rape case, that of Mukhtar Mai who was gang raped back in 2002 on the orders of a village council as punishment.
