LG Offers Hometown Cheer to Away Cricket Crowd

In London for Quarter-Finals of Cricket World Cup 2015

Cricket Fans and Expats to Take Heart in Messages Rooting for Their Teams on giant LED Display in Piccadilly Circus, London

Karachi, March 18, 2015 — In a gesture of goodwill to cricket fans around the world and as a measure of support for each of the eight national teams participating in the Cricket World Cup 2015 quarter-finals, LG Electronics (LG) is broadcasting messages from cricket fans cheering on their home teams on its giant LED display in Piccadilly Circus, London, heart of the country from which cricket has originated on Mar 17.

These messages will come from cricket fans in the countries represented at the Cricket World Cup 2015. For example, messages appearing on LG’s LED display in Piccadilly Circus include a contribution from Shehryaar Ameer of Pakistan that reads, “East or West, Pakistan is the best!”

The messages of support were culled from entries in the LG 100 Greatest Fans campaign, a campaign that offered a unique opportunity for cricket fans to show the world their passion for the game. In the months before the World Cup, fans vied to rank among the world’s greatest fans by uploading photos, videos, recordings, and messages on the official LG 100 Greatest Fans website at www.lg100greatestfans.com. An overwhelming number of the messages showed just how passionate and unwavering fans’ dedication to their teams could be.

LG has a long history of contributions to the cricket world. This year, its 17th in partnership with ICC, LG is sponsoring such notable events as the ICC 100 Greatest Moments and the LG 100 Greatest Fans campaign, which included the donation of a series of benches memorializing the dedication of cricket fans around the world. By broadcasting messages on its LED display in Piccadilly Circus, LG recognizes for the passion and enthusiasm that cricket fans pour into the sport.

“We thought that the messages from cricket fans were an excellent way of supporting each national team participating in the quarter finals and sharing the uplifting spirit of fans from across the world,”
said Wayne Park, Executive Vice President and Head of LG Electronics Global Sales and Marketing Company.

“LG will continue to repay their passion by bringing fans together to share in the love of the sport and ultimately to contribute to the success of the Cricket World Cup this year.”
