ISLAMABAD: All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) Chairman and former president Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf has said that both the PML-N and PPP repeatedly came into power one following the other but ruined the country due to their ill framed policies.

Addressing a Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) convention via telephone from Karachi here on Saturday, he said there is dire need to bring about change in the present set-up - if no change is brought, the future of the country will definitely plunge into darkness.

Musharraf said that
both the PML-N and PPP came into power two to three times but they disappointed the masses as they only served their own interests. He expressed his deep concerns over the present state of affairs in the country. He said that there existed every kind of resources and capabilities in the country but the rulers only remained busy in corruption, looting and plunder.

The former president said that no new development projects are being planned or executed, lamenting that the development projects initiated during his era have been left incomplete. He said the condition of the masses was turning from bad to worse; they are facing multifaceted crises including shortage of gas, water and power, inflation, unemployment, law and order.

Musharraf said that he returned to Pakistan in 2013 to steer the country out of the crises but he has been declared disqualified by making fabricated cases against him. He said he came in the country with a hope to make a third power to lift the masses and the country out of the current challenges.

He said that the wealth of country is being looted instead of being utilised for the development projects. He said there is a dearth of leadership. During his era in 2005-6, he had initiated various development projects of worth Rs8 billion in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and Chitral and he had been monitoring them personally, he added. He said he has built schools, colleges, a university, roads and a cadet college in Skardu.

Musharraf appealed to the people to cast their vote in favour of the APML candidate from Chitral in the local bodies (LB) elections. He said after returning to politics he will start from GB and Chitral because he has deep emotional links with the people of these areas. He asked the people to only vote to power to those candidates who will struggle for solution of their problems and not to vote for those who after coming into power move away from the people.

APML Secretary General Dr Amjad said that both the PPP and PML-N had exploited the people. He said that after the era of former president Pervez Musharraf, the rulers filled their pockets and set up factories abroad with the money looted from the national exchequer. “The people of country were mislead under the guise of development,” he lamented.

He said that people across the globe and particularly in Pakistan wanted to see Musharraf back into power as they believe that the incumbent rulers will flee from the country after looting the national wealth. He said the notion of a “United Muslim League” will materialise soon as Pervez Musharraf is in touch with some leaders of the MQM, PPP and PML-N in this regard and Musharraf will be the chief of the united Muslim League.

Dr Amjad said the APML will fully participate in GB elections and will emerge victorious as people of the region have great affection for Pervez Musharraf.

General (r) Rashid Qureshi hoped that the people will come out to bring Pervez Musharraf into power.

He reminded that during Musharraf era, the law and order situation was satisfactory as compared to the present one. He pointed out that the situation is being spoilt in the region by the aliens who are fanning hatred among the people.
