Coca-Cola Beverages Pakistan, WWF join hands to improve access to clean drinking water



Coca-Cola Beverages Pakistan Limited (CCBPL), one of the leading beverage manufacturers in Pakistan and World Wide Fund for Nature-Pakistan (WWF-Pakistan), part of the WWF global network, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) under which both organizations will jointly work to improve access to clean drinking water. This partnership will help promote water stewardship at the corporate and community levels and support CCBPL’s socially responsible contribution towards the community as active stewards of water.

Expressing his views about this initiative, Zafar Abbas Jafri, Director Public Affairs & Communications at CCBPL said, “Access to clean drinking water in Pakistan is a major issue - in the coming years increased water scarcity will make things worse – so it’s important to educate the masses and introduce initiatives to make efficient use of the water currently available. CCBPL places the issue of water usage, which is fundamental to our business, at the heart of its environmental policy. Establishing a water sustainable operation is key to our business success and to the welfare of the communities in which we operate,” he added.

During this partnership, CCBPL and WWF will install 15 filtration plants over the course of 2 years with intensive community outreach and mobilization opportunities. This initiative will, thus be carried out in target areas selected on the basis of clean water shortage, community needs and its willing participation. WWF will identify sites and communities for the installation and provision of these plants. The project will result in the development of sustainable models for provision of water that is most suited to the local context with extensive monitoring and evaluation at project sties. 

As part of this relationship, local communities will be mobilized for capacity building and women empowerment regarding clean drinking water operations while promoting the concept of water stewardship. PR
