‘Over 300 army men embraced martyrdom in North Waziristan’
ISLAMABAD – The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Defence was informed that more than three thousand and five hundred terrorists have been killed and over three hundred army men have embraced martyrdom during the ongoing Zarb-e-Azb military operation in North Waziristan tribal region.
Committee’s Chairman Rohail Asghar on Thursday chaired the meeting at the Parliament House. Defence Secretary Aalam Khattak and top army officials also attended the meeting. The committee was briefed that the security forces have taken control of Shawal mountains while ground troops and the air force jets would keep targeting terrorist hideouts till clearance of the entire area.
– Intelligence-based operation –
Since May, the military has stepped up operations in the deeply forested ravines of the Shawal valley, which straddles the region of North and South Waziristan. The committee was informed that more than sixty thousand intelligence-based operations were conducted across Pakistan and several terrorists networks were busted during the actions.
The committee also unanimously approved a resolution condemning Indian aggression along the Line of Control and the Working Boundary. The participants lauded the Pakistan Army for giving befitting response to the Indian firing. Talking to reporters after the session, Rohail Aghar said that return and rehabilitation of temporarily displaced persons would be a key task for the authorities.
