LAYYAH: Death toll in toxic sweets reached 22 after three more persons died in Nishtar Hospital, Multan whereas several people being treated are in serious condition.
Hospital administration confirmed the death of three more patients admitted at the hospital, where eight more patients are being treated.
The incident reportedly took place when Umar Hayat, a resident of Chak 105/TDA brought sweets from a nearby sweetshop located at Chowk 111 to celebtrate the birth of his grandson. After eating toxic sweets five persons died on the spot while several others fell unconscious.
The deceased and fainted persons were rushed to a local hospital for medico legal formalities and treatment.
The 22 persons died so far include eight from the same family.
The police have registered a case and started investigations.
Meanwhile, the police sealed the said sweets shop and arrested two brothers who are the owners of the shop.
One of the workers at the shop revealed the police during the investigations that a lizard had fallen in the tray while preparing the sweets and he threw it away but did not mention it to the owners due to fear. (The News)
