KARACHI: A mother was on Sunday gunned down after she resisted alleged kidnapping of her baby daughter in Lines Area, Karachi, ARY News reported.
The baby told ARY News that they were coming back towards home after buying medicines from a medical store for her little brother when two armed persons came and opened fire on her mother.
The assailants tried to snatch the girl from her mother, Aqeela, residents of the area claimed.
Residents of Lines Area protested against the killing by setting tyres on fire and blocking Preedy Street road. They demanded from the government to arrest the culprits.
Police said the incident seemed to be a result of personal dispute rather than kidnapping. However, further investigation is under way.
A heavy contingent of police have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.
This should also be noted that Director General Sindh Rangers Major General Bilal Akbar has called upon citizens not to pay heed to ‘baseless’ social media alerts creating panic over child abductions in Karachi.
In a statement issued here, Maj Akbar said police and Rangers were active for protection of citizens, hence any such rumours should not be given any credence.
He clarified that law enforcement agencies had not issued any statement asking parents to confine children inside homes in view of abduction threats.
It is also pertinent here to mention that the incidents of child kidnapping in Lahore have triggered panic in Karachi. Private schools have asked parents to personally pick and drop their children.
School administrations have made rules strict for picking kids from schools.
“Any close relative, uncles, aunts or any other body will not be allowed to pick up children for home. One of those parents who do not use vans should come to pick and drop their children,” school administrations have warned parents.
