Apart from many white-collared officers, the list also contains the names of Bollywood’s megastar Amitabh Bachchan. After the Income Tax department “aggressively” started pursuing the case, Amitabh’s name also emerged as one of the hot names of the list.

Hence, the I-T department has appointed a higher authority visit the British Virgin Islands to investigate more about the information, reported by a senior official.

The Caribbean Island is considered to be one of the several tax havens. Thirty-three prosecutions have been launched by the tax department to the names popped up in the Panama Papers and is questioning others.

An official, on condition of anonymity, told the publication, “There is no let-up in investigations. We are aggressively seeking information from other countries.”

Also, Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif was recently stacked from his position by the top court of Pakistan found him guilty in connection with the Panama Papers case. The Indian tax authorities have also been questioning the celebrities and other names in the list about their credibility of highly contentious case.

Clarifying on his name in the list, Bachchan has informed that he does not own a single firm that is named in the documents. That’s why before taking any further action, a detailed investigation is necessary.

Meanwhile, several names of film celebrities, businessman and politicians are being depicted in the Panama Papers.

However, Amitabh Bachchan has denied any such allegation saying that has never crossed the lines of Indian law.

So far, as many as 140 political figures are also the part of the list. With these names, 50 countries are under the I-T scanner. 12 sports heads and 29 billionaires are the part of the list.

“There is no let-up in investigations. We are aggressively seeking information from other countries,” the spokesperson, who did not wish to be identified, told reporters.

Asked whether data connected to the allegations against Big B was being chased, the official stated: “Mr Bachchan has said he does not own any of the firms named in the documents. So we just can’t launch a probe. We have to seek information.”

Just to inform, Panama Papers are the leaked documents from a Panama-based law firm – Mossack Fonseca and the firm has offices in 35 countries all across the world.
