Hult Prize is considered amongst one of the largest social entrepreneurship competitions in Pakistan. It has engaged more than 10,000 university students for Social Entrepreneurship in Pakistan during 2017-18.
Hult Prize Pakistan recently organized its National Final on 12th May at NUST Islamabad. Team PDX from Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE), Islamabad won the Rs. 5,000,000 National Prize.
Hult Prize Pakistan final was judged by an elite panel of global judges. Pal Belenyesi, a Consultant & University Professor, flew from Belgium and Hans Henrik Christensen, VP Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority, flew from Dubai to judge the National Event.
Judges’ panel included Farzana Yaqoob, a former AJK Minister & Young Global Leader at World Economic Forum, Shafiq Akbar, Chairman Granaa Group of Companies, Shoaib Khan VP Abacus Consulting, Safee Shah Country GM Uber Pakistan and Shakeel Ahmad Deputy Country Head UNDP.
Chief Digital Officer JS Bank Khurram Shaikh flew from Karachi, especially for Hult Prize Pakistan Final. Judges panel also included last year’s $1M Hult Prize Winner Team Co-Founders Hanaa Lakhani, and Hasan Usmani. Parvez Abbasi Project Director NIC Islamabad and Zouhair Khaliq Former CEO Mobilink sent their best wishes to the participating teams.
Hult Prize Pakistan’s National Final was made possible by the support of Mustafa Minhas, CEO End Technologies & Director (Admin & Finance) Isra University and Noman Azhar, Country Head Branchless Banking & Digital Implementation at JS Bank for being the biggest supporters of Hult Prize Pakistan.
Hult Prize Pakistan organized five Semi-Finals on 28th April in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar & Sukkur. Top-3 Teams from each Semi-Final were selected to participate in the National Final. Fifteen Teams from IIU Islamabad, University of Malakand, PIDE Islamabad, IBA Karachi, University of Karachi, Lahore Garrison University, IMSciences Peshawar, and Sukkur IBA participated in the Hult Prize Pakistan 2018 National Final. Two Teams from Lahore Garrison University were among the Top-4 shortlisted teams, along with Team PDX from PIDE and Team MEWA from IBA Karachi.
Judges Panel, after long deliberations, declared Team PDX as Hult Prize Pakistan 2018 National Winner. Winning Team will go to London for a 2-month Accelerator Program and they have a chance to win $1M in the final.
Dr. Sultan Azam Temuri, IG Islamabad Police graced the occasion as Chief Guest and addressed the young social Entrepreneurs. Dr. Sultan Azam Temuri highlighted the digitization initiatives of Islamabad Police and highlighted the need for youth participation in the technological advancement of government projects.
The closing ceremony of the event was held at a local hotel where President of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Sheikh Amir Waheed, along with the judges’ panel presented the Rs. 5,000,000 cheque to the winning team.
