WAPDA, NLC discuss strategic cooperation to implement mega projects


Lahore: A 5-member team of National Logistics Cell (NLC), headed by the Director General (DG) Major General Muhammad Asim Iqbal today visited WAPDA House to discuss the strategic possibilities of cooperation in mega projects in Pakistan. In a meeting with Chairman, Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Lieutenant General Muzammil Hussain (Retd), and other senior officers concerned, the areas wherein WAPDA and NLC could benefit from the expertise and experience of each other were thoroughly deliberated upon.

Speaking on the occasion, WAPDA Chairman said that WAPDA projects provide great opportunities to the local and international firms, wherein they can be partners in progress through open competitive biddings. Like other firms, NLC may also join hands with WAPDA to take the country to the next stage of development. Nationwide presence of NLC like that of WAPDA may provide a strong basis for the strategic cooperation between the two organizations to implement mega projects in water and hydropower sectors, the Chairman said.

NLC DG thanked WAPDA Chairman for providing them the opportunity for the useful interaction. He briefed the meeting about creation of NLC, its organizational structure, roles, presence, core competencies and iconic projects. He said that NLC is keen to provide logistic support to WAPDA for its projects, besides establishing campuses of its Applied Technologies Institutes in the project areas for skills development in the locals, so as to enable them to get jobs during construction of the projects. It was agreed in the meeting that senior officers of both sides will have close liaison to identify the areas of mutual cooperation.
