Karachi, Islamabad, and Lahore Rank Low in Global Cities Index; New York and London Top the List

Karachi was ranked 918th, while Islamabad and Lahore came in 578th and 878th, respectively, in the Global Cities Index published by Oxford Economics. The list, which assessed 1,000 of the world’s largest urban economies, was topped by New York and London. The Index evaluated cities based on 27 indicators across five categories: Economics, Human Capital, Quality of Life, Environment, and Governance.

Mark Britton, Director of City Services at Oxford Economics, emphasized the significance of cities as centers of innovation, diversity, and progress. He noted that the complexity of urban dynamics often makes it difficult to understand what truly makes a city successful. Despite the challenges, cities like London, which ranked first, and Dubai, which placed sixth, are recognized as top places to live and prosper in 2024.
