PTA sets 15 January deadline: Owners of non-activated mobile devices given one more option


The government has provided an option to the owners of mobile devices, which are not activated by upcoming January 15 to get such devices regularised on payment of leviable duty/taxes along with payment of 10 percent fine and submission of Certificate of Compliance (CoC) by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

According to the notification issued by the Ministry of Information Technology, the federal government has provided a new opportunity to the owners of mobile phones.

Under the notification, the federal government in its meeting held on December 27, 2018 has taken the following decisions regarding extension in time line (or registration of mobile devices under Device Identification Registration Blocking System (DIRBS):

"All mobile devices which are already activated on cellular mobile networks within Pakistan by January 15, 2019 will remain operational without service disruption. Even lion-complaint devices in operation prior to this date will be tied to those numbers and will remain operational till the useful life of the device."

Mobile devices which are not activated by January 15, 2019 will be provided an option to get such devices regularised on payment of leviable duty/taxes along with payment of fine equivalent to 10 percent of the amount of duty/taxes involved thereon on furnishing of CoC (Certificate of Compliance) issued by the PTA, it added.
